FROM OUR VINEYARDS…

With the Dolcetto we have finally inaugurate the 2019 harvest, the number 28th for Elvio Cogno Winery since everything started in 1991. After a basically rainy spring, summer has been characterized by average high temperatures which have help grapes to reach an exceptional phenolic ripeness. Barolo appellation was hit by sudden, violent but short water shower, as well as terrible hail storms that fortunately have saved our vineyards and the entire Ravera cru. This scattered showers has helped the vines to better face the sometime high temperatures, balancing their vital functions and helping in the best way the grapes development but, at the same time, they have promoted the raising of humidity level , jeopardizing the health of the very same grapes. In fact, from this point of view, efforts in the vineyards have been constant and intense, especially in the way we managed the thinning, which has been done with extreme attention. The strong temperature variations have contributed to maintain a good balance and an elegant development of the grapes flavor profile. For all these reasons this vintage may be considered as a beautiful one, with ripe and well sorted grapes. In spite of the fact that initially it could appear as an early vintage, on the contrary both veraison and ripening have been very punctual comparing to an average one, a characteristic that we value for our grapes quality.
